Big girl

Well, today's shot is of Katie eating her tea at home nicely. But I chose that shot as a reminder of something great she did at nursery. Today she ate a full meal at the table with the other children. That may sound a small thing, but it's a huge thing for Katie. There have been several other big things for her today at nursery too. When I took her in, she was really sad, but calmed when her keyworker and I settled her at the jigsaws. Her bottom lip went so far down when I went to the door to leave. But that was as far as it went. She got on with her puzzles without fuss. Next big thing - she went outside. The leaders took her outside first, and she wasnt impressed and ran back in. But a bit later, she went out all of her own accord.

They said she's really enjoyed today's activities and has been a real chatterbox. They were doing an observation of her when she was playing in the tray of shaving foam, when without warning she gathered all her belongings (Monkey, bag, coat and boots) and ran to a corner! That was another big thing - this afternoon, after her tea, they put her bag into the cloakroom and she was ok about it. The other structured activity today was dancing to music. They said she said "Katie like head, shoulders, knees and toes and Bob the builder". She was dancing, ran to grab Monkey and told them "I dance with my monkey".

She also sat on the potty at nursery, although wont yet wee on theirs! I'd wanted to avoid mixing nappy/no nappy but whilst we're at home she's taking her nappies off when she walks through the door. Today and this weekend she's wee'd on the potty at least three times each day and has had no accidents during naked time. However, I was pretty sure she wont yet tell nursery so its nappies out and about still, meaning I'm not really encouraging her to go for full nappy abandonment just yet. So it was nice to hear when they said she'd wanted to sit on it.

When she comes out of nursery, she bounces off the walls for the next few hours. We normally go out for a walk straight after to deal with it, but today was too near teatime, and she was literally bouncing on everything she could find and running in circles round the room! Once she'd calmed a touch, she got one of her paintings at told me "look mummy, fantastic pretty colours picture". She makes me smile.
