The Wren

Shaggy Dog

This is Bruce, a gorgeous cocker spaniel, on loan from my daughter who has three little boys between 0 and 5yrs and who felt that he would be much happier with me at the moment. And he is. .......except he is feeling decidedly unkempt at the moment and gets annoyed with all the grass seed collecting in his coat following a good walk. He reckons he is due for a hair cut and I think I might oblige him soon.

The morning was spent going to a quilt class where there was lots of chat and laughter with a little sewing. It is always good fun and interesting to see the progress of the projects being worked on.

By the afternoon the sun was shining and, with a slight breeze, the customary walk was delightful even though there was a distinct nip in the air confirming that autumn is definitely here. Earlier this morning I saw about half a dozen geese flying past against a clear blue sky with the sun on their wings. It was a wonderful sight - but I was driving and didn't have my camera at the ready! Apparently they have been arriving gradually over the past couple of weeks and the fields around here will soon be covered with little black blobs busily feeding.

The hostas are all in their new places with fresh compost dug in about them but the grass will have to wait for its next cut - maybe until next year - as it is still far too damp. New bird seed arrived though so the birds have new goodies to sample and they rewarded me with lots of visits to the table. Mostly blue tits and sparrows but hopefully something more interesting will join them one day.
