The Wren

Autumn on show

I had just one more full day in Las Vegas so my daughter-in-law and I decided to go to the Strip, while my son returned to work, as there were still some of the hotels that I hadn't visited and it had turned quite cool with a fair blanket of cloud hiding the usual clear blue sky. The Wynn is one of the more modern 5* hotels and it felt very luxurious the moment you stepped inside. Soft red carpets lay across spotless and shiny marbled floors with beige curtains softly draped around windows, echoing the colour scheme in their ties. This is a shot of the autumn display in their conservatory and the large balls you see suspended are of tightly packed chrysanthemums, while a mixture of orange and yellow chrysanthemums were arranged in swathes along the edges. The perfume was delightful and reminded me of home. We spent some time meandering through the corridors people watching, checking out the various shops, restaurants and outside gardens with impressive waterfalls utilising recycled water, each area having its own tastefully executed theme. It was all very sumptuous without being overdone and I decided that this was my favourite hotel of the ones I had visited so far in both this and my previous visit.

As it was my last day we also decided to have a flutter in the large gaming hall. We set our limit at $20 each and started on one of the games that my travelling companion on the flight out had enthused about. It took us a wee while and much hilarity while we worked out what to do but ended up by having great fun, losing a little and winning a little and being served complimentary drinks in the process. We then decided to have a shot at Roulette, but that ended rather quickly! By the time we walked away we had enjoyed complimentary drinks and a couple of hours' entertainment for our money, and all in a very convivial environment. My son then joined us after work for a buffet dinner, still in the Wynn. I have enjoyed many buffet spreads before but this certainly topped them all in the variety of food and, even more importantly, the quality.

It had been a most enjoyable and interesting few hours and fitting that on the last day of my holiday here I had dipped my toes into the Vegas experience. As we drove home we noticed that it had started to rain, a most unusual event for Vegas.
