More water

Yes, I've been playing with my new filters again! Today was much brighter, which made it a bit more difficult to take pics, as the direction of the sun wasn't working in my favour. I went down to Pirnmill to get some last wee bits of shopping before the road is closed for at least 2 days, and walked home.

The section of road I walked included the Craw Brae, the last bit of road built on the island, as they had to blast the road out of the rock. There are some great rock formations there and at the Switchbacks at Lenimore. The two best bits for me as a child on the school bus were the Switchbacks and the Craw, particularly the former, as the large bumps meant we hoped the bus driver would go fast enough that we'd fly up into the air, and going down the hill at the Craw was fun too, though even better on a bike.

The rumour is that the roadworks ongoing are to make the road suitable for low loader buses, but it will be a pretty big job to get those bits of road ready for them, never mind the bits they are currently working on. There is also talk of widening it, which in one bit at the switchbacks will involve them doing more blasting, as there is rock on both sides, so we are waiting to see what will actually be done. I did appreciate the new road when coming in by bus on Sunday, it is beautifully smooth. The road which goes over the hill between Sannox and Lochranza is called the Boguille (sorry, no idea what it means), and the new road goes about 2/3 of the way up, before hitting the last bit of new road, which is still not too bad, but then you get to the end of that and it's like hitting cobbles the potholes are so bad! Hopefully they will get that done soon.
