Covenanters Monument

This stands on the opposite side of Redford Road from the Drummond Scrolls which were all constructed by Robert A Macfie from materials originally on the frontispiece of the Royal Infirmary. He also owned Dreghorn Castle and erected the monument on this property. However, the castle was acquired by the war office in 1893 and thus the monument became associated with the barracks that developed on the site. The castle was blown up spectacularly demolished in 1955.

A good description, with more detailed photographs, appears in the SMM+S site and there are links there to further information.

The Royal Infirmary was built under Provost George Drummond who raised the funds and procured the materials. There is an interesting account in a commentry on a portrait of him
