Lewis & Clark
We entered Canada today. Driving North along the front range of the Rockies to the medicine line as the Blackfoot Indians used to call it. Along the way we passed through the route Lewis & Clark took on their historic expedition across the continent long ago. I had to jump out for a cheesy picture beside one of the historic markers commemorating their route. After all, Merriweather Lewis is a distant ancestor in our family tree. It's fun to think about that - full circle in a way many generations later...
It took about two hours passing customs at the Canada line. A filthy fan full of college students and backpacking gear...more than enough to raise eyebrows. I've been through this drill enough times though and patience and politeness has always been the antidote. Finally we arrived in Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta. It's fancy and developed on Waterton Lake with oodles of RV camp spots and touristy ice cream shops and overpriced restaurants. We took a dip in the icey cool of the lake and dried in the sun. Packed our gear for our the next week out in the backcountry and share a huge and delicious meal of veggie burritos.
Excited for 8 days in the Castle-Crown Wilderness....
