River god

It was a beautiful day today with bright sunshine and clear skies. I took D and J, my friends from the deep south, to the Gateshead Quayside. We visited the Sage and saw the main hall, then we went to the Turner exhibition at the Baltic Gallery. "Interesting" and well worth the visit if only to know what the fuss is all about when the prize winner is announced.

The views of the river and the Newcastle skyline were great. It has been hard to decide which image to blip. Here is one of the sculptures on the Newcastle side of the river. I used to think this was an anti slavery sculpture, but not so. It is one of a pair of sculptures by André Wallace. This is the male river god and the other one is a female siren. They were erected in 1996.

In the afternoon we visited Hexham. D achieved excellent shots inside the Abbey (without a tripod too). Home to our evening meal and time to look at photos from their cruise around South America (I want to go too!!)
