Snowballs in June
So, Crater Lake is one of the most beautiful places in America. It's a volcanic caldera with the deepest (and bluest) lake in America.
Last time we were in Oregon we skipped this because it was May and we knew not all the roads would be open. So, I'm now asking myself, why did I think early June would be all mountain meadows and sparkling water?
Here we are having a snowball fight outside the shop where Auntie V has just had to buy an emergency coat. It is so foggy tht I could only take this shot because the fog had lifted a bit.... And the snow away from the roads was about 18 feet deep. I was slightly worried about all the people we saw with those high tech walking sticks - where were they going? And more importantly, did they ever make it back?
Despite this, we decided to stay in the nice lodge on the caldera edge. Over dinner we were treated to a brief glimpse of the lake, but I was enjoying a rather nice Oregonian merlot and figured we'd have photo ops galore in the morning....
