Seal Pup

Kiwilizzie and I have run away from work for the weekend and have landed up in Kaikoura.

We had a lovely trip over today - stopped at Brancott Winery for lunch, visited a friend of mine at Kekerengu and stopped at Ohau Point to see the seals. We took the walk up the creek to where the Mummy seals bring their offspring to play.

It is amazing that they get there. They have to travel quite some distance over a tumbled stream bed, climbing the whole way. But when they do get there, wow! A wonder fresh water pool fed by a beautiful waterfall. There were at least 8 seal pups there when we visited and they were having a wonderful time. A couple of them, like this wee chap, were having a bask and the rest were swimming, rolling and leaping in the water.

Once we got to Kaikoura, found our holiday house and had a wee nap on the couch, we went out for dinner. Kiwilizzie chose the restaurant and it was a real success. I had a divine beet and fetta crepe stuffed with dates, pistachios and dried lemon. Yum!
