Today's the day ...................... to play chess

The windows of our appartment look down over this oversized chessboard where a Dad was showing his children the finer points of how to play chess this morning.

I don't think they were all that bothered really - they just liked it that the chesspieces were almost as big as they were - and that the sun was shining!

And you can see by the long shadows that the sun is not rising very high in the sky and we are very close to the shortest day .......................
