Maths Monkey

Today was the first day of term but it was a teacher training day. this morning we had a session on maths teaching with around 100 teachers from schools in our cluster.

What is your reaction the the word 'maths'?

Do you proudly declare how bad you are at it?

We can't live without maths. ALL jobs require it yet we are often so scared of it.

Well my mission, and that of many of my colleagues, is to stop that being the case. We are really struggling in this country for mathematicians.

Maths Monkey could be the answer. He goes home and encourages children to do some maths every day. He is made from a pair of socks. My needle and thread is coming out soon!!!
