Blooming Awful!

CACTUS: The name CACTUS stands for ENDURANCE.
Sad to say,one of my little alien's antennae(8th Jan.Blip) dropped off this morning! You can just see the single remaining bud in the background of the picture,to the left. He survived just long enough for me to capture and create my vision of him before he could ENDURE the strain of trying to grow up no longer. He was caught in the bud. Maybe little Zygo will make a return visit from planet Zygocacti next year.
However, the rest of the blooms continue to impress.

The Christmas Cactus
I was barely eye level to the kitchen counter
When I had my first wondrous visual encounter
Green branching leaves erupted from a clay pot
Fuchsia blooms sparked as though they were hot.

Flowers clung to the tips of each segmented spray
As the winter arrived, it gave a brilliant display
The Christmas cactus was an elderly friends glowing delight
She smiled slightly as observers marveled at the sight.

years later,I brought it home to nurture and try my craft
to maintain ,so placed it in a cool corner away from draft
It basks in the sun's indirect rays and sleeps in the dark
Each Christmas it debuts and receives praising remarks.

It's a lovely flowering cactus and it is still growing strong
When I was asked how it managed to thrive for so long
I merely said that it demanded little watering or attention?
Its prized beauty is continuing to amaze the next generation .

adapoted from a poem by Theresa Ann Moore

P.S. This is my only cactus out of three that blooms when it should. My so called Easter cactus blooms whenever the notion takes it, as does the other Xmas one.Does anyone else have the same problem?
