Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Moody Blues

The sun had to fight its way through the cloud-cover late this afternoon, but it did! A number of spectators gathered to watch, to wait, to anticipate -- we weren't disappointed. It came to us in pastels, grays, and glowed. We oohed, aahed, hummed, hooted, and giggled a little.

The weather folks reported last evening that we should expect some atmospheric change. We didn't "expect" anything, but we accepted whatever arrived, and it arrived in blazing colors about 6:30ish this morning. So throughout the day the sky gave us a gauze of soft gray and occasionally a sliver of simmering silver.

Today I think we put a new definition on the term "brunch." We stopped for breakfast before driving north and each ordered the two-egg breakfast with fruit and toast, and Mr. Fun thought we ought to order a hot dog because "we're at the beach and everyone should have a hot dog while at the beach." When we waddled away from the breakfast table, I thought to myself, "I think we've just had brunch!" I didn't feel the urge to eat again until after 6:00 p.m.

We traveled a few miles north watching the water all the way; then visited the city of San Clemente, which is flavored with lots of quaint Spanish architecture. It has a picturesque pier and well-kept shoreline. It is certainly on our list of top five coastal cities to live in. While there we took a couple of good walks with the three pooches and they agreed that living in San Clemente would be just fine with them.

Then we made the short drive south again to Carlsbad-by-the-Sea to watch the early evening performance in the sky. This is our last night in a lovely inexpensive motel-near-the-sea that welcomes our three pups. Tomorrow morning we'll "get on out of here" and we think travel for many hours to some coastal location miles north from here.

Max has taken to riding shotgun next to Mr. Fun in the front seat and the three females -- that would be Chloe, Mitzi, and me -- are watching the road from the backseat and having a darn fine time. And so far we haven't once regretted bringing the three dogs with us. But there's always tomorrow! ;-)

So this January coastal vacation continues tomorrow.
Good night from the coast of Southern California,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun, Chloe, Mitzi, & Max), aka Carol
