2012 Tuesday — Silhouettes on the Sand
I hope it is okay to have had another fabulous January vacation day!
We thought we had to check-out of our motel room this morn. Then Mr. Fun went to the office to ask if just maybe there was a chance that we could stay for another night in this same room. We had been told previously that today was the end of the road. Surprise; surprise! We could have the room for two more nights. Woohoo!
So we didn't pack-up. Instead we loaded-up the pups and we were off. Wandering south to see the sights (and the dogs thought "sniff the smells"). We took a moderately slow cruise down the coast through Carlsbad, Leucadia, Encinitas, Cardiff-By-the-Sea, Solana Beach, Del Mar, and finally La Jolla, lovely, luscious La Jolla!
As we sojourned we looked at architecture, cars, coastline, and everything else that crossed our path. For a brief moment we parked the car at the curb in the La Jolla Cove and walked the pooches, got them some water, and found a restroom for us. Then it was well after the noon-hour when we finally found some decent shade to park the car (and the pups) and we walked to the Brockton Villa for lunch, which is just across the street from the cove. We could see the ocean the entire time we ate.
He order a cup of their better than anywhere else clam chowder and the "Zen Rice Bowl," and I ordered the new item on the menu "Turkey Breast Sandwich" with cranberry chutney. All were delicious. After eating half of my sandwich, I boxed the other half (and have now eaten it for dinner). Then we ordered their world famous dessert: Coast Toast. This week they will be interviewed by Bon Appetite magazine about that dessert -- they've sold more than 500,000 orders of Coast Toast!
After lunch, we drove to the public library and strolled through their "friends of the library" treasures. I purchased a half-dozen used magazines. He found used DVDs and some videos. Then we found our way back to the highway to begin our trek back to our rented vacation room and stopped along the way to watch the sun make its farewell for the day. Mr. Fun captured a "sort of" silhouette of me and the pups (he had captured a photo with better exposure but the dogs looked like they were sniffing each other's "you-know-what's" so we didn't use it).
We've skipped dinner -- well, we ate the leftover half-sandwich I brought back with me. We've just watched one of Mr. Fun's finds -- Chances Are with Cybill Shepherd, Robert Downey, Jr., Ryan O'Neal, Mary Stuart Masterson . . . more than 20 years old, but we enjoyed it immensely.
And now, well, now it's time to Blip!
We've got lots more days of January vacation. Tomorrow -- well, we have no plans. So we'll report on it here about 24 hours from now.
Good night from Southern California.
Rosie (& Mr. Fun, and Chloe, Mitzi, and Max), aka Carol
