Waterfoot Sunrise

Break in the Clouds

After yet another stormy night, the sky was overcast this morning although the wind had abated somewhat. As I headed off on my run the the clouds broke and some blue sky appeared. For a brief few moments the clouds were wonderful and just had to be blipped.

When I got to the beach I was met by a police officer who asked me not to run in the direction of Waterfoot as a piece of military ordnance had been washed up. The officer told me that the Bomb Disposal would be coming at mid-day to dispose of the ordnance, so I must listen out for a big bang as it is only 150 yards from the house. In fact its pretty much in the middle of the blip!

Through the years odds and ends of ordnance has been washed up, often simply old military flares. They reckon it probably comes from a trench off Portpatrick where lots of WW2 munitions were dumped after the war. Thought did cross my mind that I could wait to later and try and blip the Bomb Disposal in action, but that's maybe not a good idea!

UPDATE - I learned at lunchtime that the ordnance had been blown up at 1030, when I was at the shop for my Sunday paper. So the big bang had actually occurred before I published my blip and I missed it!
