Millau Viaduct

We went to see the mighty Millau bridge today and had our breath taken away all over again. What a thing of beauty it is, towering over the gorge with the combined strength and fragility of a steel spider's web. It is 2.5 kilometres long and as tall as the Eiffel tower at its' highest point.

The first time we drove down to Roujan we hit the normal 2 hour traffic jam that was Millau in the summer, with 6 lanes of traffic squeezing down to 2 lanes of hairpin bends all the way down the gorge and up the other side. We joked to Nicola that they should build a bridge. "Oh, they are," she said. And they did. Another extraordinary example of anglo-french co-operation and a worthy succsessor to Concorde, that other exquisite piece of engineering guaranteed to swell your heart.

For those who asked to see us both together, this is me and my sis. We're a bit small because the bridge is so big (!) but you could see it large I guess.
