Who says technology is bad

You know, for all of the rubbish you hear about how technology interferes with our lives, tonight it made an evening all the better.

My Nana turned 82, and those of us who could get there made it to Crewe for a 'surprise' meal - she knew she was going out but she didn't know that we would be there or that my Aunty Val and her husband would be.

She also had no idea who was on the phone when Vikki passed it over and said "put it to your ear and speak" ....the look of genuine surprise and happiness when she discovered that it was one of her other grandchildren, my cousin, Simon, who is in London, was priceless.

Then Vikki started tinkering around with a laptop and next thing you know, Nana is talking to my other cousin, Tom, who now lives in America. he dived out of a meeting especially to skype with Nana. How cool.

Then finally, the remaining grandchild, my brother, was on the phone and so she had all of her children with her, and had seen or spoken to all of the grandchildren, and her great-grandchild, James, was there too, along with Liam, honorary family member, grandchild/cousin/uncle depending upon which of us you speak to.

Lovely evening, and Grandad was there, in photos spread out across the table and in our hearts and minds.

Others are here

I know she misses him, even more than we do. Her heart must ache, but I hope that a really lovely evening with family tonight has made her heart sing just a little.

Love you Nana
