Brrrrr
We decided to take a walk to the Birks of Aberfeldy. It was very cold indeed with no snow but lots of ice! The River Moness has carved a steep sided gorge in its passage to the River Tay, and the walk is steep, particularly on the east side. The ascent, as it gets steeper, has steps cut into the path, and wooden bridges crossing little waterfalls which cascade from the higher land above.
The picture shows one such bridge but the waterfall has almost seized up! The pedestrian path curves round and up to go over this little bridge, and there is usually a lovely gushing swooshy waterfall below, but today, the upper streams have part frozen so there is very little free flowing water.
I must admit, we didn't continue to the upper falls. It was really cold so instead we went for coffee and cake at the restored watermill in the town of Aberfeldy! It no longer produces grain but it has delicious home baking which connects it to its past in a nice tasty sort of way! As a bonus, it is also a great book shop and art gallery.
