straight roads

What a contrast today's journey was.We had drizzle and mist - and its cold ! For the first hour it was hairpin bends all the way up over the mountains - and again acres of vineyards.We skirted Christchurch but did not see any evidence of the earthquakes - we will be returning to meet up with Jackie and Ian and to catch our onward flight to Melbourne.
This area is so different - very long ,straight and boring roads with few homesteads - the area has been so dry that fields are all being irrigated. We had to stop to allow this "thing" to pass (photo) - not sure what it was - but can you imagine this happening in England ?
We ended up in Timaru where we'll spend the night.
