Sir Fergus welcomes Mr Charles Dickens to his house and to Edinburgh.
"Are you familiar to the town Mr Dickens." asks Lady Jane.
"Yes indeed, m'lady" My wife's parents live here in the New Town..
"I understand you have come to give a lecture to the newly formed Philosophical Institution." asksGrandfather McLeod.
I am very honoured, sir, to be given the oppertunity to do so." replies the great man.
Sir Fergus then gives the news to the rest of the family that he has heard the Town Council has voted to give Mr Dickens the ' Freedom of the City'
This is confirmed by Mr Dickens who is immensly proud of the honour.
Lady Jane comments on the present tale of the Old Curiosity Shop which is being serialised and everyone is desparate to know if Little Nell will die. She has heard that six thousand people met the ship on the quayside in New York from Britain bringing the next instalment .
"I must keep you all in suspense my dear lady." says Charles Dickens.
It is a memoriable dinner for all.
