Lathyrus Odoratus

Romany Ridge

A bit of early morning sun but then it all went rapidly downhill with wind and rain. I walked around the southern end of the commons which are dominated by wet heath and large areas of open shallow water. A year ago today this area was completely dry and a huge heathland fire swept across it destroying many of the reptiles as well as clearing out some of the scrubby birch and gorse. For the most part you wouldn't know there had been a fire at all. This particular pool is usually a favourite haunt of dragonflies - especially four spotted and broad-bodied chasers - I'll be back in the late spring to check for exuvia.
