International Book Day

Every year our school celebrates International Book Day. They encourage all the children to pick a character from a book and get dressed up like them, bringing the book into school so they can read and look at them in the classroom. The teachers then choose a few winners from each class.

My girls start planning their costumes months in advance . This is handy as some of them take ages to make, although at least as they get older they can create most of the outfits themselves. One daughter takes the whole thing very seriously. She has her title to defend as she has won every year since starting school.
Here are my three on their way to catch the school bus. First up is Elmer the Elephant, unfortunately the photo was taken in a hurry and we forgot to hold up the trunk. In the middle is Medusa, we had to get a book on myths and legends for that one. She made a hairdo of jelly snakes, which have since been eaten by the boys in her class. Next in line is the farmer's wife about to cut the tails off three blind mice, she went to school with three plastic ratty things and a giant wooden knife.

Well they are all home now and all the three of them won! The prize was a trip to a local cafe bakery, for a guided tour and cake with the headmaster. Isn't school great these days?
