"this" and "next"

I agreed to meet my friend at the National Gallery of Modern Art One next Friday. This was on Monday or Tuesday. So in my head I had prepared for meeting my friend today. While waiting I took this blip of the "Landform" and I am quite proud of the reflections, really. I then proceeded to the cafe because if you go there before 10 and you only take a normal coffee or tea you only pay for the baking but not the drink. After the third text to my friend she called to say that today was only "this" Friday, not "next" (which would be in a week's time!!!). Oh dear! What a numpty!

Enjoyed my tea and proceeded to look at exhibition with S anyway. I had seen the sculpture exhibition already on my own about a month ago (see blip of 10th February) and had been deeply moved by one of the pieces, this time I did not have time to be moved because S was very particular in what she liked and what she didn't. A nearly four year old she appreciated the Moore, the Hepworth and also the Barlach (apparently because these sculptures were about her size) but when it came to the huge newborn baby she hid and the next room with the life-size masked men, the life-sized naked lady and the tourists she did not like at all. She perked up again in the very abstract last room that had colourful tiles.

She really enjoyed (as I had done the last time and also this time) the Fischli and Wyss installation "Der Lauf der Dinge", the chain reaction is fascinating and she was enthralled. Then it meant walking all the way to school again, with breaks to blow bubbles. It started to rain rather heavily but we made it in good time. In the afternoon I got some time to myself, went to Leith Walk to try on some Dr Martens that I then ordered online for nearly half the price (it's a shame really but that's what happens unfortunately). I'm not sure if they are too chunky but they are comfortable and should keep my feet dry in the rain and hopefully my ankle supported on long walks with the kids.

I had a lovely coffee and read of the paper more or less opposite and the coffee was about 20p cheaper than nearer home. I will return!
