Mansefield Memories

Toll House, Mid Calder.

Known as ' Main Point' this old toll house stands between the two roads. It is featured in an old map of 1763 when the main road passed to the left and down to the ford. When the new bridge was built in 1794 the traffic then passed by the right of the toll house. The old road continued to be used to the north by Pumpherston and Uphall until the 19th century. It no longer exists and the lane now takes you to the old primary school.
