Getting High!

A certain lady from the East Coast suggested we should climb to the top of the Harbour Bridge in Sydney for a cracking blip. I must say the idea appealed, but the price was a bit on the high side. $440 or over £300 for the two of us to get dressed up in boiler suits and clamber over an old bridge, mmm...I don't think so!

Instead me and Mrs B did what we do on the first day in most cities we visit. We got to the top of the highest building to get our bearings. In this case that meant the top of the Sydney Tower. At 309 metres, its nowhere near the highest tower in the World, but it is the highest building in Sydney, so we had to get to the top of it. A snip at $25 each and the view was fantastic. Even time for morning coffee and a muffin!

Once we had descended back to earth, we decided to walk over the Harbour Bridge to Lavender Bay. OK, this might be the cheapskate way to see the bridge, but look at the money we were saving! Once on the bridge we discovered you can climb one of the towers for $11. Now to a miserly Scot that looks like a bargain, and so it turned out to be. The climb up the tower took us at least three quarters of the way to the highest point of the bridge, and we didn't have to get into a silly boiler suit. There was also a great display of the history of the bridge and an excellent short film. However, the best bit was standing on the top parapet and watching the poor souls in their blue boiler suits climbing up the stairs in 25 degree heat. What made it even better was learning that they were not allowed to take cameras in case they should drop them on us poor pedestrians or the motorists below! All that way to the highest point of the bridge and no blipping!! No doubt there was a photographer at the top to take their picture and charge them a small ransom for a print!

Anyway, this is one of numerous blips of Sydney Harbour and the Opera House, which cost me nothing!

The rest of the day involved lunch at Darling Harbour, walk round the magnificent Botanic Gardens, watching the sunset at Mrs MacQuarrie's Point (lots of blips but no great colour!) and dinner watching a cruise ship depart from Circular Quay (the one in the right of the blip).

A day of many highs that has left us feeling as if we are still floating in the clouds! Tomorrow we head to Manly on the ferry.
