Dingwall

This is the Railway Station sign at Dingwall - a small town north of Inverness, Scotland. Beneath it's name is the Gaelic name for the town, all the signs in the highlands have there gaelic name beside the english one. This can be confusing! - Then the national cycleway to John O' Groats (the most north eastern corner of Scotland) and lastly the sign for one of the special tours of Scotland 'The Gaelic Rings' that the Tourist Board recommend. Trains in the highlands are on single tracks and wait for the train coming in the opposite direction in the station where they can pass each other. Tokens are passed from driver to stationmaster to the other driver which then allows that train to proceed along that stretch of line. Many of the little stations are request stops only so you have to tell the guard if you want to alight halfway down the line.
