My life, my lens

Head for heights

A late start and then straight out to explore Calgary. We had a nice walk through down town, did some shopping at the 'mall' and then on to Stephen Avenue.

The street was named after George Stephen, the first president of the Canadian Pacific Railway. It has lots of registered historic buildings and the street was declared a Canadian historic site in 1992. Most of these building are sandstone; a result of the construction of fire resistant buildings that followed a fire in 1886 that damaged much of the city. I really liked the huge 'Trees' sculpture which is designed to reduce wind gusts between the buildings.

We then took an elevator up the Calgary Tower which claims to have the highest 360 degree observation deck in the world. Its a clear sunny day so we could see for miles and as the city is so flat we could see all the way to the mountains. Matt hates heights so stayed clear of the windows but I love them. The glass floor extension is great for people watching. Its such a funny feeling to stand looking straight down and everyone always tests the glass before they stand on it.
