Life through the lens...

Bell Song

The last of our daffodils opened out while we were away.
A lovely dwarf multiflowering fragrant jonquil type.
So delicate, with a beautiful pink centre.
For once it looked exactly like the photo on the packet!
I wonder who chose the name "Bell Song"?
Our first variety came out in February and this is the last.
They do have a very long season.

The estate in Norfolk where the beef came from for our steak, also grows daffodils.
20 different varieties. Some were still flowering in the fields when we were there.
They sell the cut flowers to supermarkets, (annually about 12 million flower stems!) and then after two years they harvest the bulbs.

Surprisingly 2/3ds of the bulbs are exported to America!
The other third used in the production of drugs for the treatment of alzheimers disease.

They also grow peas for freezing. A large proportion of these are exported to Italy!

This week has really flown!
Hope you all enjoy the weekend.

Surprise, surprise, the draught orders in Yorkshire have now been lifted!
They must have realised at last that many parts of the county are flooded!
