Learning day by day

Lily Beetle

Another day of sunshine so we spent it in the garden. I think it may be the last day in the garden for a while if the forecast is anything to go by. Daddy dug out some huge roots from near the door of his new shed, with some help from a saw, a drill and of course his little boy. The boy was fascinated with the proceedings and also thought it was quite cool to make a soil castle with the dug out soil.

Carys helped me finally plant our potatoes, lets hope the ants don't get at them this year. I also planted some tomatoes in a hanging basket, an 'normal' hanging basket or two, one large patio pot and a couple of courgette plants. Fingers crossed it doesn't frost this week, it could be a close call.

This is one of many Lily Beetles that I mentioned last week. They breed in the blink of an eye. You can see the antennae of another one come from the leaf behind, also eggs on the underside of the leaves in the foreground and also the dark strip on the underside of the leaf in the left top corner. After some reading around the subject I decided just to ditch the plant and soil in the bin (recycling of course) as the only way to get rid is to hand pick them and I really don't have the hours in the day for that sort thing.
