Ticket to Ride, White Line Highway
On a Friday night, we went to the Bruce Inn.
My first visit to the Bruce was for a Hen Night when I started work. I was 17 only just, and survived my night of Pints of Pils and blackcurrent and pernod chasers because I think I was so overwhelmed by the excitement of the whole "night out scene".
The Bruce Inn is now the Loans Inn, a very nice (25/25 per Tam Cowan), place to eat, and the D.I.S.C.O is no more.
It was the early 80's and I longed for Duran Duran, Flock of Seagulls, Talk Talk, Simple Minds.... thrown in amongst the Aneka's, Tina Charles, and Dexy's. We danced all night, and made our £5.00 last us by batting our eyelashes at boys and getting them to get the drinks in.
At half past midnight, everyone would be kicked out. The bar had shut at 12, and drinks were lifted. On a warm night, it would be like another club. Everyone sitting on the walls outside, chatting and laughing and joking about what had gone before. People waiting for taxi's, and others starting the walk home. Some to the West down the mile and a half to Town, and the others up and over the hill to Dundonald.
The walk home was always full of laughter and bursting bladders, and in my mind, the nights were always warm and we were able to wander home with no jackets, and frequently bare feet.
Those were the days.
