He's got the fever
Glandular fever that is.
So after last night, his fever had dropped so i thought perhaps it was a short bug that had left already, when he woke this morning he seemed alright then less than half an hour after getting up he was back in bed. Crying that he wasnt well and is body hurt.
He has no appetite, his body aches, his throat hurts, he has absolutely no energy and his fever is coming and going.
I thought best i take him to the doctors.
They did a strep throat swab and while they waited for the result the doctor saw us and said most likely strep so would give us antibiotics -until the nurse came in and said it was negative, he then asked some more questions and told me Marley has glandular fever.
All the symptoms fit, his throat is really red with no pus tonsils swollen, his glands are swollen, sudden onset of fever and lethargy.
Ive never had glandular fever so i wouldn't have picked it and apparently the other day when i said his lips were blue, his teeth were chatttering and he was so cold- the doctor nodded and said that would have been first onset of fever and symptoms. I didn't even know fever could present like that or that it would even be linked to what he has now. I honestly thought he had a nasty cold and the fever was the end of it leaving his body.
He did examinations like pushing on his skin to see how it reacted, looked for a rash and felt his abdomen - apparently the spleen can swell but not all get all symptoms and its more common in teens that littlies, he said that he should recover quickly, kids bounce back he said.
So off home with some pain relief and lots of rest and recovery.
This is him at 1pm on a beautiful hot day, he just wants to be in bed.
Ive been doing some reading up on it and i was really surprised that the virus can linger for quite a long time- in the system for life apparently. And some kids get it with little or no symptoms. I guess it depends on each childs immune system
I feel so awful for him.
My friend popped round with supplies early this morning which i was so grateful for- her babies have it too! We are thinking of making a club.
