Cheeky birds
A wet, dull day.
We didn't stay up too late after 'the bells' - we must be getting old (definitely, I hear my family say) but the music was, how shall I say it kindly, awful!
I was up early enough to catch this Robin and Coal Tit having a cheeky bath in one of Eleanor's trugs. It was rather muddy and they splashed the mud everywhere. Did they even know you were supposed to start the New Year all spick and span?
I also had had the germ of a poem in my mind while I tried to sleep last night, so I had to put it down this morning - it was especially for the New Year.
Bring in the New
The Old Year has gone, the New Year has begun
Hope fills our heart, we dare to believe
Peace will break out, where war has brought tears.
The hungry will be fed, the homeless find shelter
The orphans who tremble, new parents will find
The wrongly convicted, at last will be free.
These are our hopes, surely dreams do come true
But.....
We hoped for these last year, such longings we held.
The world is still broken, people remain trapped
Promises are given, but seldom delivered
What can we do, close our eyes and our hearts?
No......
We can work where we can, bring someone relief
We can’t change the world,
But ....
We can change someone’s world.
