I'm outa here!
Sometimes I wonder if animals just get plain bored with us humans and our cameras! As you can see, I went out to see if the baby egrets had hatched. As far as I could tell, there weren't any. I did research a bit about egrets and their nesting habits. Here is a little something about them:
The great egret is a little over three feet tall with a wingspan of almost five feet. Its feathers are entirely white. It has a long, sharp yellow bill and long gray to black legs, with non-webbed feet with very long toes. When the great egret is in breeding plumage, it has long lacy and delicate plumes on its back that curl over its tail. Males and females look alike, but the males are a little larger. The great egret is also known as the American Egret, the Common Egret, the Large Egret, the White Egret, the Great White Egret and the Great White Heron. Another thing I read is that the females lay 3-5 eggs. When they hatch, it's all about survival. The larger ones will literally pick on the smallest until they actually knock it out of the nest :(
Nature can be cruel but it is survival of the fittest, as they say.
It was another beautiful sunny day but windy! At least it keeps the temperature at a tolerable level. Ok. I really don't like the wind. I'm trying to keep a positive attitude as it's part of living on the coast. But, I really dislike the wind. And, it really blows here. Like I said, it keeps it from getting too hot. I like the wind..I like the wind...I like the wind....I will just keep telling myself that!
Today was the last day of elephants on the roof getting our new roof put on! Yippee! We are so funny. It's just a roof but we went round and round about which color to use. I picked one I thought would be perfect at the very beginning of this little venture. Glenn hated it. So, we waited. Then the roofer brought all his samples over for us to look at. We pondered then both decided on one...teak. Now that it's up we don't like it. Bahahahahaaa!! And the funniest part????? Glenn says "why didn't we pick driftwood??? THAT is the one I picked at the very beginning that you hated!!!! :) It's just a roof and it's done and it's new and we are happy with it! :)
Had a pretty slow day today :( Not good when there are bills to pay. I guess that is all part of running your own business.
Well, tomorrow starts bright and early. I am photographing the local diabetes walk event. I did it last year and was happy to do it again this year! A very worthy cause. I am not diabetic but my step-dad is and I have watched him struggle with all that goes along with it. So, if I can donate my time and camera to a good cause I am there! :)
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend planned!
I took a few photos of the egrets today if you want to take a peak.
Happy Friday
