Police Undercover Squad revealed
Despite the promise of wall-to-wall sunshine on last night's weather report, it is the usual grey day. Though not wet! We must take heart from that and venture out. Who knows how long it will last? I'm hoping the wall-to-wall sunshine will kick in tomorrow - and we will head up the Road to the Isles. With rain gear.
Decided that the only thing for it was for lunch in town to cheer us up. This doesn't necessarily cheer me up, of course - there are so many things that can go wrong - namely loud muzak of the Whitney Houston variety. We popped in to many eating establishments, including one that boasted that it was 'A peaceful haven'... NOT!
Ended up at our old favourite, the Outsider. I have never been disappointed there. The muzak is low, and of a consistent quiet rhythm. It's not likely to burst into twanging and caterwauling on the next track once you're seated. In fact, once it's full, you can't hear the muzak at all. The meals are always fantastic.I And you can have a nice view out the back over the rooftops to the castle.
We had gone to view the new Edinburgh Museum, which JR declared was open today. It was not. It's been painted up in rather bright colours, and they've been working on every time I've been there recently. Never mind - a wander up the Royal Mile, avoiding bollards and dandering tourists - is always interesting.
Came across these three likely lads outside Lothian and Borders Police shop. I presume they're undercover and will mingle with the crowds in the pubs for the football on today. I know they're undercover policemen, because they're all in the same pose - it's obviously a signal. Left hand in pocket. Right hand clutching coffee. I think they've gone to town a bit with the mufti gear, but not as much as the two still in the shop! The one in the top hat has obviously spotted a suspicious character down the road.
A carafe of wine with lunch... I think I may have to watch the football. If they fall over and pretend to be hurt, I'm switching it off. And I don't care who wins. I support the All Blacks!
