Bid for freedom

Yesterday's walk on this same moor was not conducive to photography at all. The snow was inches deep, the surrounding hills masked by lowering snow filled clouds, the wind howling and the sleet crashing into my face sideways! Then during the afternoon the temperature rose, the snow turned to lashing rain and the snow on the ground took a fright forming huge puddles and flooding on local roads.

This morning the temperature was hovering on freezing and the roads and pavements had become treacherous underfoot with ice so my friends and i delayed our walk until the afternoon when at least the sun had had a chance to make a breakthrough.  I think the dogs had resigned themselves to a day in - not that they ever have to have that! - so were bursting with energy when at last we unleashed them onto the moor. We had a fabulous walk with the hills finally in view, the snow underfoot crisp and not too deep, all lit up by the weak wintry sun. We finished just in time however, as the clouds rolled in to drop more snow on the hills which were gradually disappearing again and the temperature plummeted once more making the walk back rather treacherous and icy.  Once I had bathed Bruce's feet in lukewarm water to remove the ice balls I sat down and enjoyed a refreshing cuppa.
