Opening Ceremony

Momentum employs over 220 disabled or disadvantaged people in Scotand, and over 70 of them are now at the new Haven facility on Clydebank.  This newly refurbished premises has had over £600k of investment courtesy of parent Rehab Group.  Although the business moved here over three months ago, today was the official opening by Joe Fitzpatrick, MSP and Minister for Parliamentary Business.

The facility processes the packaging for over 1 million bottles of whisky every year, assembling the cases and cartons and performing quality control before it goes to the distiller to have the bottle put in before being shipped around the globe.

Thomas McNally was on benefits for many years before joining Haven 11 years ago, at first part time and now full time.  During that time he has progressed through a variety of roles and has been trained as first aider and forklift driver. He now deputises for the warehouse manager.  He spoke of his pride, improved wellbeing, and improved finances from being in work - "Having a job makes it all worthwhile".

The minister spoke of how important it is that "all people of working age who want to work should be supported and encouraged to do so".  Like Forth Sector which I volunteer for as a director (we employ over 50 disabled and disadvantaged people as well as helping many more find employment elsewhere), Haven is a part of the mechanism to make this happen.

It was great to see the facility officially opened - I wish them all the best of luck with it.

Now, back to my day job...
