The old Coal Staithes, Cardiff Bay.

These once splendid old wooden structures were built in 1869 in what was then a tidal harbour known as "Tiger Bay".  Boats from all over the world would moor up alongside them whilst wagon loads of coal straight from the pit head would discharge their cargo's into the hold. Two of the staithes were in use up until the 1960's. Of course, everything has now changed and what was a filthy dirty area is now a splendid water park all kept in place behind the enormous Cardiff Barrage, some of which can be seen in the foreground.
