The Opposition

These are the allotments at The Street, the other site in our village. We haven't been past them very often recently as the nearby golf course is usually out of bounds for walking in the winter on account of it being too muddy.

When we first became allotment holders four years ago the Council wanted our site to take on a degree of self management and The Street was held up as an example of good practice. I couldn't see that at the time and I can't see it now. We understand they have a system of inspections and warnings and eventually eviction if you don't keep your plot tidy and productive.

We do have an informal group looking after our site but on the whole ours looks far better than this site. Mind you it makes an interesting shot as it shows the tremendous degree of construction of all sorts and sizes on the site. A veritable forest of poles and pallets and wire and netting. The big frame in the foreground is a chicken hut occupied by couple of big birds. I was suprised to see livestock as I didn't think they were allowed on our site.
