Light at end of the tunnel, er, I mean "day"
It's been a long day. Woke at 4:30 am and couldn't get back to sleep - it was storming, blowing hard, snow then rain all night. Got up at 6 am, shovelled snow for an hour to get the car out and made it into town for an important appointment - an hour drive on rather treacherous roads. But I made it! Quite proud of myself. More shovelling. Drain pipes for bathtub frozen again. Tried to fix it by climbing under the house (it's -12degrees C), but that's it - no more baths/showers for 4 months till everything thaws. Not happy about that!
Then the power went out at suppertime. Lived by candlelight until a few minutes ago - seemed like the right blip for a challenging day! I must say, there was a moment during the power outage when all was completely silent and peaceful - just the glow of the candles and the woodstove - now that was a gift.
