Coppicing

I've driven past these woodlands on many occasions over the years I've lived in this area. To my knowledge this is at least the second time this area has been coppiced. Its great to see woodland being managed like this. In the foreground you can see the new saplings sprouting up from recently coppiced trees and in the background the trees yet to be felled.

Being as Monday id meant to be Mono and the day at this point was grey it seemed to me to be an ideal subject for black and white. I'm not sure this is the best image I could have captured as driving further along the road and glancing across to the woodlands there seemed to be much better shots to be had. Still, that will give me the opportunity to go back for a shot from another angle.

On occasions as I've gone past, smoke has been rising as bits of twig and branches have been burned and there has been activity - people felling the trees and equipment being used. That would have added some action to the shot.

Had another conference call this afternoon. Either side of the call we spent time rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic, trying to find a new layout with the living room furniture that would create space for an additional chair. We managed to achieve an new arrangement in the end and now have a space for that chair. Also enabled Susan to clean behind bits of furniture, so she was doubley content.

Working on the spur of the moment we then walked into to town to look at the Stressless chairs at a local furniture store. We got there just after they'd closed but the manager kindly opened up so we could see the stock of chairs. Makes you want to purchase from them but they were £100 more expensive than we've seen on line. Did I mention Stressless chairs? Comfortable but the price is anything but stressless!
