A little known gem....
William Ricketts (1898–1993) was an Australian potter and sculptor of the arts and crafts movement. He developed a philosophy, a spirituality really, that embraced the aboriginal peoples as being the essence of life.
His sanctuary - where he lived and worked - is outside Melbourne. It has many of his fascinating works of sculpture with aboriginal faces a major theme. No one in Melbourne knows about it (although it is well known in Scotland because Billy Connelly made a film about it.) It turns out that the Parks Service who run the sanctuary are not keen to attract too many visitors - that would spoil the reflective peace of the place. The loudest noise is the persistent laugh of the kookaburra !
