Chocolate head
The Black Headed Gull has a chocolate (70%) coloured head in summer and I think you can see that developing here. They are a noisy crowd and eat almost anything. They are quite long lived and have been known to reach the age of 32.
Thanks to everyone who made amusing comments on my footpath signpost. If the up arrow meant you should climb the tree to see where you were then several wanted to know where the down arrow was. It is of course at the top of the tree. Moreover one of the signs on the other faces of the post is a pepperpot. You need some local knowledge to know why. Anyway it was fun.
