Cycling Mecca.
We've had a wonderful day today and unexpectedly warm and sunny after last night's gales.
Spent the morning strolling along the bay and finding places we have stayed at before. 18 years ago we were here with both children when they were 15 and 13, the following year we came with just Grace who was then 14 and both times we stayed in apartments. We said at the time that if we should come again on our own we would stay at this hotel and here we are! We bought some salads and tortilla and ate our lunch on the balcony with our complimentary bottle of wine and then headed for the Cap de Formentor. This amazing mountainous headland behind Port de Pollensa is stunning especially on a day like today. It defies anybodies image of Mallorca being an over developed resort island.
Along the route we saw many cyclists. (Our flight had lots of people on checking in their bike carriers) This twisty up and down route is really challenging and is very popular with amateur and professionals alike. There are also some pretty tough walks or Camis across the peninsula and you can see one path zigzagging up the hillside on the left.
There are lots of wild goats in this area and one not so wild one was here at the Far de Formentor viewpoint pestering everybody with a bag of crisps or a sandwich! He was very nearly my blip but the view won out.
The suns going down and we are chilling with a cuppa in our room and having found we can get BBC we are watching the rugby before deciding where to eat tonight.
