Curlew

Our house has Curlew in the name - taken from the fact that we live in Curlew Wood - so you'd think they'd be a common sight. But out on the open moor whilst you often hear them they're so perfectly camouflaged that they're very difficult to spot - and as per usual for us if we do its most likely because the dog has spooked them and they're in full flight.

So having spent today cooped up in Penrith Fire Station on my Community First Responder course I needed to get out into the glorious sunshine with pooch (who was shielded from wildlife view by a convenient dry-stone wall)  this evening - & who did I see bold as brass making his* way around this newly seeded field - at the limit of the pocket camera's zoom - but I'm quite pleased with it.

* - usual rules - no real idea.
