Hectors dolphins

Yesterday evening we drove south the Akaroa on banks pensinula, east of Chistchurch. The area was formed from a previous volcanic eruption and the scenary is stunning (although very windy for driving a large motorhome around!). Akaroa is a historic french settlement so the street names are mainly French, which is unusual for NZ.
We had a fantastic experience getting kitted out in wetsuits and going out in the boat to swim with dolphins. We managed to see and swim close to Hector dolphins, which are the smallest species of dolphin in the world. We also manged to spot a little blue penguin passing by!

Afterwards we enjoyed exploring the beautiful town including the "Giants house" which is the house of an artist who has decorated her gardens in mosaics, St Patricks church and the cute local cinema. We also enjoyed a walk up to the lighthouse (I've always been very interested in lighthouse).
Such a wonderful place to visit :)
