Spital tongues houses

My street is made up of a row of brightly painted houses overlooking the grassy field (Castle Leazes) where cows often graze.

The area is named Spital Tongues. "Spital" is thought to be deprived from "hospital" and "tongues" meaning outlying piece of land.
As this previously outlying piece of land was once home to St Mary Magdalene's hospital founded in the 12th century to care for victims of leprosy.

The different brightly coloured houses, lush green grass and blue sky make for a fresh spring photo.
