Farewell
John helped set up the school rowing club three years ago and has worked tirelessly to get new juniors out on the water, along with his daughter Zena. Sadly he's just been diagnosed with a serious illness and has had to retire from coaching as he begins what will be a very tough battle. He's facing it with his usual positivity, rising the the (formidable) challenge.
Although Tom has moved onto a different club I went down to say farewell, as did many of the old cohort. We reminisced about our first ever race. Monmouth Christmas Head, torrential rain - we drove for hours to get there, spent yet more hours fiddling with the boats, and then the race was just 6 minutes long and they came last! Then we had to drive all the way back in the same torrential rain. My intro to being a rowing mum.
We also made River Thames Shark Attack!the video which apparently has 9000 views now on YouTube. It was fun….
