This morning was pretty blissful. In what may well be the best birthday treat of all time, the Minx got up and lit the woodstove to make coffee in the moka pot, which we then sat and drank, snuggled together in bed, while the rain came down on the wooden roof. Today's page in the photography book was to do with framing and this is my effort, taken from the bed. It's not a good example of the technique but I love the way the flowers look like something out of an old painting.
We only got up when the hut's owner brought us some breakfast: two plates of full English, covered with tin foil to protect the food from the rain as she carried it across the field. After that it was time to brave the eco-loo, which I rather liked, particularly the element of it that was sitting there with the door open looking into the woods. The shower was fun, too; a little wooden lean-to whose back wall started at about knee height and stopped around my shoulder. Thus it was semi-al fresco. The water was nice and warm but, golly, it didn't feel like there was much protection each time a gust of wind cascaded down through the woods.
Just before midday, we headed out in the Minx-mobile, and made for Anglesea for no reason other than the fact we fancied going across the Menai suspension bridge. Thus we spent a happy couple of hours, mooching around in the car, stopping at Puffin Island for cups of tea and a scone with jam and cream, and then popping into Bangor to see the pier (and I have to take my hat off to the Minx here for a fine display of her exceptional sense of direction).
After that, though, it was back to the cottage to spend the late afternoon and evening in front of the woodstove with our books, and a couple of bottles of wine. Perfect :-)
