Abergele

If there's one thing better than a weekend away with the Minx, it's a surprise weekend away with the Minx. Not that the weekend itself was a surprise, I expected it, nor was it a surprise that we were going away, today, I'd been told that. No, the surprise was in the destination.

This afternoon, we headed down the M6, across the M56, and then onto the A55. I've been that way before - to Chester zoo and also, I think, to a stag weekend on a barge - but I had no idea of our final destination...

... which turned out to be a stone hut in a field just outside Abergele. It was beautiful. I guess it was once a stable but it's been properly renovated, with one room converted to a bedroom, comfortably big enough to take a double bed, and the other room is a combined living room and kitchen. Well, a kitchen with a settee in it.

We were shown around the facilities - eco-loo and outside shower - and then left pretty much to our own devices, which meant lighting candles, drinking wine, eating the lovely nibbles that the Minx had brought along, and reading our books. We left the top half of the stable door open while it was light and enjoyed the rather competitive birdsong, but once a shelter-seeking bee came in, we carefully disposed of her and then shut the door.

It's properly dark here. Which isn't a problem except the loo's outside!
