Got on well today..
Raked a patch for carrots, and sowed 2 rows each of 7 varieties. Not quite as simple as it sounds, the patch is rather stoney, and these have all been raked to one side, and will be picked up later. It's probably more stone an soil, but a nice bit of ground.
I then planted the Schorzonera and Salsify on the ridges I made the other day. Seen at the far right here. These are thistle like plants with a long edible tap root, so planting on ridges makes the soil deeper!
Then planted the four rows of potatoes, the ridges in the middle.
Previous sowings are coming up, can clearly see the rows in the salads. Parsnips and beetroot are showing. Onions and shallots are looking good in the far left corner, and the Kohl Rabi plants in the nearest section look very healthy.
The cabbage plants from last year are producing some amazing spring greens and spring purples! So good I'm reluctant to pull them out yet. But I'll have to soon to give me chance to rotorvate it and plant this years crops!
Then put the plough on and ploughed the patch this side of the rushes. Got the plough set just right by the time I'd finished it. It won't win prizes, but it's broken up, nearly turned over, and will rotorvate OK in a couple of weeks. More ground for salads and courgettes, pumpkins, butternuts..
